Dawang, which is the seat of Zhaoqing National High-tech Zone, was originally a provincial state-owned Dawang Farm. It was established in 1958. In 1978, it was renamed as Dawang Overseas Chinese Farm for the resettlement of Vietnamese returnees and was managed by the Overseas Chinese Farm Management Bureau of Guangdong Province. The management of Zhaoqing City; Dawang Comprehensive Economic Development Zone was established at the end of 1992 to give county-level administrative and economic management functions; in the first half of 2002, the Zhaoqing High-tech Zone was relocated from Zhaoqing City to the city and given municipal-level economic management authority. The team has three brands (Dawang Overseas Chinese Farm, Dawang Comprehensive Economic Development Zone, and Zhaoqing High-tech Zone) and undertakes corresponding social management functions. In July 2004, it was identified by the provincial government as a key foreign industrial park for foreign capital absorption in Guangdong Province and a demonstration area for foreign investment in the mountainous regions of Guangdong Province. In August 2008, it won the first demonstration industrial transfer park in Guangdong Province; in September 2010, it successfully upgraded to a national high-tech park. In August 2011, the country was awarded the title of “National Model Labor Relations Harmony Industrial Park”; in September 2012, it was recognized as a National IP Pilot Park.

The Zhaoqing National High-tech Zone is located at longitude 112°47′~112°52′E and north latitude 23°15′~23°24′N. It is located in the center of the Pearl River Delta, at the eastern end of Zhaoqing City, downstream of the Lancang River and the Beijiang River. It is 50 kilometers away from downtown Guangzhou and 45 kilometers west of Zhaoqing City. It is a half-hour economic life circle of Guangfo Temple. On the highway side, many roads such as the 321 National Highway and the Guangzhou-Guangzhou Expressway, the Guangfo Expressway, and the Pearl River Delta Outer Ring Expressway pass through the area, and it takes 40 minutes to drive to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. In terms of railways, Guangzhou-Foshan intercity track takes only 20 minutes from Dawang Station to Guangzhou and only 15 minutes to Foshan; Guangmao Railway, Guiguang-Guangzhou High-speed Rail and Nanguang High-speed Railway pass through the south side of the park, including Guangmao Railway. It connects the Pearl River Delta and the western part of Guangdong, and is directly connected to Guangzhou to the east, further to the Beijing-Guangzhou line and even to the national railway network. It can reach Maoming, Zhanjiang, and the railway network of Guangxi to the west; Guiguang High-speed Rail, Nanguang High-speed rail connects Guangzhou with Guiyang and Nanning, respectively, and is a major arterial artery linking Guangdong with the Southwest. Port: The park is close to the north of the Beijiang River and the south side of the Lancang River. It has a 2,000-ton container terminal, close to the specialized cargo port—Mafang Port and the nearby Xinang Port, Sancha Port and Sanshui Port. Pearl River Logistics Terminal is only 50 nautical miles from Huangpu Port in Guangzhou.

In 2016, the region's GDP reached 22.83 billion yuan, an increase of 6.4% year-on-year; the gross industrial output value above designated size was 82.33 billion yuan, an increase of 6.8%; the industrial added value above designated size was 19.95 billion yuan, an increase of 6.7%; and the fixed asset investment was 15.59 billion yuan. Yuan, an increase of 5.1%; retail sales of consumer goods reached 10.27 billion yuan, an increase of 60.5%; local public finance budgetary revenue was 726 million yuan, national tax revenue was 1.387 billion yuan, an increase of 46.7%, and local tax revenue was 655 million yuan, an increase of 12.3 million yuan. %; New approvals for foreign investment in contractual contracts, actual use of foreign investment, and total foreign trade exports amounted to US$138 million, US$98 million, and US$5.386 billion respectively. To date, our district has cumulatively introduced more than 300 various types of industrial enterprises, of which more than 260 have already been put into operation. The preliminary formation of a new metal material industry led by Asia Aluminum Group has been formed, and the biological elements led by Zhongheng Group and Da Huanong have been formed. The pharmaceutical industry, the electronic information industry based on Zhongdao Optoelectronics, advanced equipment manufacturing supported by over 100 manufacturing companies, and biomedical food and other industrial clusters.

 In the next stage, Zhaoqing National High-tech Zone will follow the requirements of “building a modern science and technology industrial city and leading the city’s new industrialization”, and will focus on the construction of a bearing base for innovative enterprises and a transformation base for innovation results, highlighting the development of advanced equipment manufacturing and biomedicine. High-tech industries with a focus on foods should effectively follow the new normal development path of “science, technology, finance, industry, and cities” and work together to build a regional, state-level high-tech zone and build an important node of the national independent innovation demonstration zone in the PRD.
